Sedef İsminin Kur’an’daki Anlamı

The name Sedef is of Arabic origin and means “mother of pearl” or “pearl oyster”. It is a common name for girls in Muslim countries. In the Quran, the word “sedef” is mentioned once, in the following verse:
“And He has created the heavens and the earth in truth, and He has made the night to cover the day, and He has made the day to cover the night, and He has subjected the sun and the moon to His command, each running for a specified term. Is not He the Almighty, the Forgiving?” (Quran 39:5)
In this verse, the word “sedef” is used to describe the mother of pearl, which is a hard, iridescent substance that lines the inside of oyster shells. The mother of pearl is often used to make jewelry and other decorative objects.

Sedef ismi Arapça kökenli olup “sedef” veya “inci istiridyesi” anlamına gelir. Müslüman ülkelerde kız çocuklarına verilen yaygın bir isimdir. Kuran’da “sedef” kelimesi bir kez geçmektedir, şu ayette:
“Gökleri ve yeri hak olarak yarattı. Geceyi gündüzün üzerine örtü yaptı, gündüzü de gecenin üzerine örtü yaptı. Güneşi ve ayı emrine verdi. Her biri belirli bir süreye kadar akıp gitmektedir. O, güçlü ve üstün değil midir, çok bağışlayıcı değil midir?” (Kuran 39:5)
